Hiding from the big Four-O!

I remember being 20 and thinking that 40 was old.
This past Sunday I got a year closer to that milestone... I turned 39.
Over the course of the past week I contemplated whether I should mention my upcoming birthday to people I know. Thinking that maybe if few people knew about it they might think next year is 39 not the Big Four O!
So I carefully kept the hype about that day to a minimum... but being as keen as my family is they surprised me with a bbq on Wednesday to remind me that soon I will be “Old!”
Then the weekend came and we went camping at Lake Bronson and had a great time. I actually forgot my birthday was on Sunday (memory loss... a sign of getting old) until Saturday when I went to the local beer store and they had one of those old calendars with the cards that you change the date every day and it said July 22nd.
I went back to camp and an hour or two later we had visitors at the camp site. My Aunt Louise and Grandma Jean came to have supper with us and almost immediately wished me a happy b-day.
Well at midnight my brother Marty who is going to be 18 in a month, reminded me that I will be “old” in his eyes, in less than a year!
Well I guess I won’t be able to hide that event from anyone next year. I am sure several of them are doing a countdown... let’s see... as of today... 363.5 days to go!
About the only thing I can see being good about 40 at this point is that I turn on a Monday and have to get up at 4 a.m. for my run to press the next day... so I will have to behave... or maybe the paper will be a day late next July 24th!
–Until then,
Ken
