You are here

Late July, opposite of late January

Hot! Hot! Hot!
Has it been hot enough for you?
Temperatures pushing 100 degrees Fahrenheit plus some humidity and it is the exact opposite of what we complain about in late January.
In a way late July is the same as January in that they are both about a month after the official start of their respective seasons; summer and winter.
However, I have found that the effects of each of their extreme temperatures tend to be different; at least when it comes to people’s demeanors.
In mid-winter some people complain about the cold but also many get depressed, suffering from the winter blahs.
In mid-summer I find some people do complain but rather than getting depressed they tend to get crabby, especially if they do not have air conditioning.
Heat like we have had can slow a person down and keep them awake at night. I think the lack of sleep is where the crabbiness comes from.
Monday I was enjoying my air conditioned sleep when the power went out... I was okay for an hour or so, but then the house warmed up and I had a hard time sleeping... while I was not too crabby Monday... anymore nights like that in the next few days and I could become crabby... but at least I won’t be depressed.
Oh well soon enough the depressing dark and cold days of January will be here and we will be dreaming of heatwaves that make us crabby as being better.
–Until then,
Ken
