Have to spend some to make some

Have to spend money to make money.
I have heard that old adage a hundred times or more over the years. Sometimes people are good at following it and more often than not people are apprehensive about it.
We all like making profits but hate having to spend anything to make them happen. But in many cases you have to spend to get the other going and that was proof positive over the weekend when a good friend of mine spent about $1,500 on a new wood stove, chimney and stove pipe.
It started with a $600 stove... he seemed pretty good with that but then he began pricing out the chimney.... at about $100 a three foot length he was grumbling pretty good by the time he had four lengths up.
Then when he discovered the double wall stove pipe from the stove to the chimney was another $150, he just about blew a gasket.
But after I told him how much he can save on his gas bill every month... well he felt better. I think he knew all along that he would come out ahead after a winter or so, but he, like so many of us hates to let the money go out so more will come in.
Well we got the stove in, went and cut and delivered some wood and now it is time for his investment to start returning.
–Until then,
Ken
