John Laverne Peterson, 87

John Laverne Peterson passed away peacefully in the Rainy River Hospital on August 10, 2016. John was born on August 26, 1928, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Arne and Helga Peterson.
He moved to Baudette, Minnesota in 1968. John worked at Ken-Mar-Ke Resort, Jesme’s Resort, Bodahl Plumbing and finally for Solvay until his retirement.
He married Margaret Edith Moen in October 1979, and moved to Rainy River. John and Margaret spent many winters together in Phoenix, Arizona, and summers in Ontario.

Gardening Guru: Two crops-One planting!

By Melanie Mathieson Gardening Guru •Two Crops – One Planting Sometimes you can get a second crop from some plants like green and yellow beans, lettuce, Swiss chard and other greens. After they have finished producing, try chopping them down about 3 inches above the soil. You can either cut with scissors or pruners or if you have a large patch use the lawn mower set on the highest setting or garden shears. Keep watering as usual and in about a week you should see the stumps sending out new shoots. In about a month to six weeks, depending on the weather, you should be picking a new crop.

Need more time for cleaning vehicles!

Over the weekend I finally had some time to wash our vehicles inside and outside! Most of the summer I have had my handheld vacuum cleaner in the trunk of my car, thinking every weekend I would have time to get the job done. Read more...
