Library Corner: Win prizes in our Family Literacy Contest!

By Michael Dawber

Join the Rainy River Public Library’s Family Literacy Day contest!
Caregivers and children up to age seven can get a free contest package with games, puzzles and coloring sheets.
Submit your completed game, puzzle and picture pages to the library.
Then, join us on Family Literacy Day - Friday, January 27 - for a free storytime and craft.
When we’re done, we will announce our contest winners.
The most colorful, neatest and brightest entry in each category will win a great prize.
We will also have a prize for the family that reads the most books together in January.
Books must be checked out overnight to count.
Families have hundreds of new books to choose from.
Did you know the library added nearly 2,000 new items in 2011?
The many new books, DVDs and talking books helped boost our annual circulation to 12,926.
This is an increase of over 36 per cent compared to 2011.
New to the adult fiction shelf are Northwest Angle by William Kent Krueger and Southern Comfort by Fern Michaels.
We also have John Grisham’s new bestseller, The Litigators, and New York to Dallas by J.D. Robb.
New movies include The Help, The Last Airbender, and season one of the BBC’s Sherlock.
Don’t forget: our new schedule means our free computer lessons have changed days.
Lessons are now available on Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Email our computer trainer Shauna at to set up an appointment.
We look forward to seeing you again soon!
