Library Week is Oct. 16-20th

By Michael Dawber

Have you made a connection with your library? Now’s the time!
From October 16-20, the Rainy River Public Library will celebrate Ontario’s annual Public Library Week.
We will be holding special events and unveiling new services for you.
For example, your family can get connected to the great outdoors with the library’s brand new “Birding Buddies” kits.
Funded by a special grant from Ontario’s Healthy Communities Fund, the kits have all the tools your little explorer needs to learn the birds.
We have kid-sized binoculars, great bird guides and a custom list of the birds of Rainy River.
Did you know Rainy River is one of Ontario’s top bird-watching spots, with more than two dozen rare species?
Join our guest programmer, Justin, as he leads a “Birding Buddies” walk around town with our new kits.
Our walk leaves from the library on Friday, October 19, at 1:30 p.m., weather permitting.
There’s no charge. Just call 807.852.3375 to let us know you’re coming.
Our walk is for caregivers and children 12 and under.
Your family can also get connected to great stories, games and crafts during our autumn pre-school story time.
Librarian Michael will have this free story time for caregivers and children under seven on Friday, October 19, at 11 a.m.
Story time will run every Friday until November 24.
Public Library Week is the best time to get connected to free computer training.
Our computer trainer, Shauna, is available Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Email to schedule your lessons.
Don’t forget: the library’s popular silent auction and book sale also return for Ontario Public Library Week.
Our auction table will be open for bids starting at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16.
Bids must be in by 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 20.
Our book sale runs during regular library hours. Everything sells for $10 a bag.
Our sale table is loaded with hundreds of movies and books of every description.
We look forward to seeing you!
