Library Corner: Having a record breaking summer!

By Michael Dawber

Young readers are breaking all the records in the Rainy River Library’s summer reading challenge!
As of August 2, children in our program have read an amazing 1,132 books.
This is more than double our readers’ final tally for 2012.
This helped boost library use to 2,591 for July, up 48% over July 2012.
This makes July 2013 of the busiest months ever recorded at the Rainy River Public Library. Well done, everyone!
Our summer readers are now on their way to the finish line. Our challenge ends on Friday, August 16.
Remember, children win a prize for every book read.
They can win a second prize for writing a book report or making a picture about their favorite stories.
Check in with our summer reading leader, Cassie, to register and claim your prizes.
The Library Board would also like to thank everyone who supported our 2013 Best Book Sale Ever. With your help, we raised $773 for the library.
All funds raised go to purchase new items for the collection.
We’ve just taken delivery of 15 new DVDs bought with our book sale proceeds.
Titles include Cloud Atlas, Hansel and Gretel-Witch Hunters, Jack
Reacher, Django Unchained, Jack the Giant-Slayer, and the
Oscar-nominated National Film Board short, Paddle to the Sea.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.
