Moments to cherish
There are moments in everyone’s life that they remember forever.
In the past three weeks I have had three of those moments with all of them touching me very deeply. The first happened on June 2nd when I asked my girlfriend to marry me; not how I planned to but I asked anyways. She said “yes” and set several events in motion that I had not expected. One of which was a surprise dinner put together by her 10 year old daughter. It was an engagement party for us; signifying her approval of our decision to get married. That really made a huge impression upon me.
Having come from a broken home and seeing the great divide between two families that were now becoming one, I remember all too well that it can be very difficult for children to accept a new person into their family.
On Sunday another one of those moments almost had me in tears. Her youngest, a two and a half year old boy, walked up to me and gave me a great big hug and said, “Happy Father’s Day Ten (He has not mastered the letter K yet).”
I have been very blessed in the past two years by my relationship with my fiancee and her two children and in the past three weeks I have really come to understand the true meaning of family on a real personal level.
–Until then,
