Was the crowd camera shy this year?
While the crowd seemed to be as large as ever the final weigh-ins at the RRWT this year just did not seem to excite people.
I have seen all but one of the 12 RRWT's and every year until now the crowd was in a frenzy when the top five boats from day 1 were trucked through the tent.
People were clapping above their heads and screaming as loud as the music that escorted the boats in. I have compared it to a rock concert in years gone by.
But this year that seemed to be missing. People crowded towards the boats to watch, but few were screaming or clapping.
The Dime Store Fisherman t.v. show was on site to tape the event for an upcoming piece they are doing on the community and of course fishing on the Rainy River.
One of the cameramen was panning along the audience trying to get people to cheer and throw their arms up for his shot. But instead people waved back at him.
Could it be people were camera shy because t.v. was here?
I know when I was a kid all I ever dreamed of was being on t.v. Any chance I had I would do my darndest to get the camera's attention.
Or perhaps people have gotten tired of the same old routine and just can't get as excited as they used to? I hope this is not the case.
So many hours are put into making the RRWT what it is and if people lose interest we could lose the event.
I thought it was an exciting tournament, especially since fishing was so tough it meant the anglers had to work extra hard to catch fish. And some of those fish were really impressive!
Whatever the reason I hope the frenzy is back next year!
