Thanks for the memories Milt

If there ever were two words that could get me excited in the office, they were, “Milt Guba.”
Sometimes Milt would call, sometimes he would show up in person. Usually he had a beef about something of his that had not made the paper or the way I had edited his copy.
In between calls and visits Milt would mail me stories on community events, school happenings and of course his favourite beat, church functions. In recent years he has graduated to the faxing of stories and I figured that with another year of coaxing I would have him into emailing and using a digital camera.

On Sunday the man who wrote the news of the central part of the west Rainy River District passed away suddenly at home.
Milt’s contribution to the district is unparalleled. How many people can say they have recorded history as it happened for three or more decades.
While Milt and I sometimes butted heads, he always found it in his heart to forgive me and share a laugh with me.
He was a dynamic person and he will be sadly missed both in person and on paper.
Thanks for the memories Milt.
–Until then,
Ken
