Thanks for being up-front Dr. Dave
Last Wednesday members of four communities gathered to learn about a proposal to build a duplex for locum doctors and medical students.
I have to say that after hearing Dr. David Singleton explain how things work at our clinic, hospital and long term care, all I could think of is, yes we need this.
If the facility is going to improve our chances to get relief for our full time doctors then by all means lets get it done!
Dr. Dave spoke about how he and his family love it here and how he loves to work here. And at the same time he was very frank with us. He told us that not many doctors can survive working, the pace that they do, without a break.
He is on call 185 days of the year, works five days a week, covers ER shifts, long term care and acute care patients. I don't know how he does it!
Then he is a father and a husband. The situation is no different for Dr. Beller. They are very busy and very essential to our medical facilities.
While most people there were convinced after Dr. Dave explained the situation, one thing I kept thinking to myself was, "Thanks Dr. Dave. Thanks for being so open and up-front about this situation."
Dave could have chosen to walk away. After all doctors are in high demand everywhere. Instead Dave told us he loves it here but he needs our help. So now we have to help make things better for the people that make us better.
–Until then,
Ken
