Either you really love it or you hate it

FORRRRRRRE!
Last week I did something I never thought I would... I golfed for the first time.
My fiancee likes the game and said I should try it. “Either you love it or you hate it,” she said.
For a couple of weeks she had me get out in the yard and practise my swing with her clubs and wiffel balls. It seemed like fun, but she said it is nothing like hitting a real ball.
So last Thursday, being it was Canada Day and nothing was going on in Rainy River she and I headed to the course in Baudette. Guiding us was her 10 year old nephew, who just won a berth into the regionals for golf in Minnesota. He offered me some pointers and boy could I use them.
My first two balls went right into the water on the first hole (was slightly nervous and very unsure of

myself). I decided to take a drop and work on my drive on a few more holes before attempting to cross water again.
She was right, it was nothing like hitting a wiffel ball.
I really enjoyed the driving part of the game and thought it would be the hardest part of it, having done mini-putt courses many times.
However, I was very wrong. I found putting and using the pitching wedge to be the most difficult part of the game. But I was assured that with practise I will get better at them. I finished 9 holes with a score of 67; not bad considering I counted 14 on the first hole.
I really enjoyed the game and hope to find time to get out and practise some more this summer.
–Until then, Ken
