Very proud of how generous this area is
It is times like the past couple of weeks and especially this past Saturday that make me the most proud to be from Rainy River.
Over the past few weeks it seemed like the well of generosity, here and in the area, would never run dry!
I am referring to the outpouring of support for the Alzheimer's fund-raiser that Rainy River hosted on Saturday.
Volunteer Marlene McNally has looked after soliciting and collecting the prizes for the penny table the past seven years. Once she started the final push for prizes it seemed like the flow of them would never stop as so many of them were dropped off here at the Record office.
In addition to those wonderful acts of generosity, there have been each of the past few years volunteers coming forward to donate not only their time but other items.
Last year Darlene Armstrong and Theresa Sharp donated and made all the desserts.
This year Anne Mailloux, Gill Stamler and Norma-Jean Johnston made and donated the vegetables.
We never have trouble getting volunteers to return to their jobs every year, including Uncle Bob Johnston, Tom Irvine's family, my folks, Jim and Sue Armstrong, Jennette Cross, and many others.
Every time I figured the generosity was going to abate, someone else would come forward with a donation.
We have a very charitable community and we should all be proud of that and thankful that so many of those who need the benefits provided by organizations like the Alzheimer Society can get them because of it!
–Until then,
Ken
