Land line is nothing more than a memory
Well I finally took the plunge!
No I did not get married over the weekend.
For the past year or so I have been contemplating getting rid of my land line phone. Then about two months ago I received a notice that my phone company was increasing the costs of all the services I subscribed to. While it doesn't sound like much when they raise one of them by $2, then another one by $2, etc. But when I added up all the services I paid for I was fuming.
Between my phone services, which included unlimited long distance to Canada and the US and my dial-up internet connection, I was paying $103 per month! I remember when my home phone was less than $30 per month in total (some 20 years ago).
I also carry a mobile phone and began asking myself, "How much do I really use my land line?"
I conducted an experiment. I erased all the caller I.D. numbers off my home phones and then after 10 days had a look.
I received four calls, three of which were telemarketers, and I made two calls from it.
On the other hand I had received about 20 calls on my cell phone and made and received many many text messages and did a lot of instant messaging.
Times have changed and I guess it was time for me to change with it and save some money in the process. Why pay for something I am using very little?
So now if you need to get a hold of me, call the Record office at 852-3366 or send me a message on Facebook which I will receive on my mobile phone. You do not have be my friend to send me a message on it. I can either message you back or call you from my cell.
–Until then,
Ken
