Election, Trump, Obama and Bin Laden

Wow what a week for the history books!
As soon as the federal election was called five weeks ago, I looked at the calendar and noted, "The last weekend will be free time for the candidates as everyone will be focused on one thing and one thing alone - the royal wedding."
Prior to the wedding the biggest political news was the sudden surge in the polls by the NDP who's colour is orange... hence the now dubbed Orange Crush (Not sure how soda distributor Canada Dry Motts feels about the affiliation to their popular beverage).
NDP leader Jack Layton ramped things up just before the wedding day, referring to himself as Prime Minister for the first time.
Then came the wedding and as I predicted no one, not even the news media were talking about the election on Friday.
I tried to find the election on several newscasts Friday morning... no luck unless the candidates had changed their names to Will and Kate.
The election campaign tried to break through on Saturday, but everyone was still talking about the wedding.
Then Sunday came, the last full day of campaigning and if anything happened it was surely "trumped" by Donald Trump and his t.v. show Celebrity Apprentice.... ooops I mean Trump was trumped by the President of the United States, Barrack Obama.
The President had news that intelligence about the whereabouts of Osama Bin Laden had been discovered last August and on Sunday he signed the papers to order US troops to seek out and either capture or kill Bin Laden in his Pakistan lair.
I am sure it was not planned by the President, but it sure was ironic, that he interrupted the climax in Trump's show to make the announcement. After all it was earlier in the week where Trump's constant badgering about where Obama was born lead the President to reveal a long form copy of his birth certificate proving where he was born and to say the country had more important things going on... little did we know how important!
Again the election was crushed off the radar. People will remember the week for the wedding. Will never forget the long sought after death of 9-11 mastermind. Yes it was quite a week.
As I write this on Monday, I am anxious to see whether the NDP will make history and either become the top dogs, official opposition or end up in third place again.

–Until then,
Ken
