Women deserve to be better treated

Why is it in this day and age women can be treated like they are below men?
It continues to baffle me why some businesses (and I am not referring to ones locally as I have not encountered this here) treat women like they are stupid.
My fiancee experienced this first hand the other day when she visited a major lumber supply business where she lives. She has been saving money to build a garage on her property and also borrowed some. She had researched what she wanted on line. But the package on line needed to be modified to meet the needs she wanted.
The changes were not complicated, but when she tried to get help they sluffed her off like she was a nuisance. They sent her to a kiosk without any help and by the time she had attempted to construct a garage without help she was feeling stressed and sad. On the kiosk the project's cost had gone from $6,000 to $10,000 for materials; shattering her budget and her spirits.
So she left frustrated and thinking that this project might not happen. On Sunday my Uncle and I accompanied her to the same store. Amazingly the same clerk helped us meet her budget and even went out of his way to save her money.
While I am sure the business would deny they treat women differently, I think they need to work harder at communicating better. She knew what she wanted but was broad-brushed. When two men were on the scene everything changed.
