The proof will be in the pudding
The proof will be in the pudding now.
Last Thursday we elected Sarah Campbell of the New Democratic Party to be our Member of Provincial Parliament.
At the all candidates debate in Stratton a week earlier, Campbell insisted that one does not need to be in the governing party to make a difference for constituents.
Both the Liberal and Tory candidates said it would be much better for the riding if the M.P.P. is a member of the governing party.
Well the Liberals will form the next government, but with one little catch... it will be a minority government!
Had they formed a majority Campbell would have really had her work cut out for her, having to fight from third party status to get things done for the riding.
But now she and her fellow New Democrats have a unique opportunity. With such contrast in the political policies of the Liberals and the Tories, it is likely that Premier McGinty will turn to the NDP to get work done.
While they do have their differences, often the social policy agenda of the NDP is hijacked by Liberals and implemented.
Sarah, and the other 16 NDP M.P.P.s now have a unique opportunity to have a say in government.
And during the election the NDP said there will be "Respect for the North." Well here is an opportunity for them to make us feel like we are a part of the process in Ontario... instead of Toronto basically ignoring us and ramming policies down our throats that do not work in the North.
Yes the proof will be in the pudding. If Campbell and the NDP deliver, this region should be a much better place to live by the end of this term of government.
–Until then,
Ken
