Daring to say, "Let it snow..."
If you are like me, the unusually mild weather gets me thinking spring.
Sunday I utilized the nice day to take down Christmas lights at my fiancee's place.
It was nice to be outside, breathing fresh air and enjoying the sun!
In years gone by I have looked forward to the odd mild day in the middle of the winter and cherished every minute of it. Those days would make me think about spring.
But with the almost abundance of milder days this year, more so than wintery cold ones, I have been thinking spring since before winter officially started on Dec. 21st.
Usually I spend my free time in January and February surfing camping websites, yearning to get out there and enjoy the beautiful country we live in. But this year I began looking in December. Thinking to myself could we actually get through this winter unscathed by snow and cold? Could we end up with an early and mild spring? Could we be out camping in late April?
In December I thought, the warm snowless spell was just an anomaly. I figured January would come and I would be snapped back to reality; out of my spring time dreaming.
But it really hasn't happened. Yes this week is supposed to be colder, but then by week's end it is supposed to go back up to above normal temps.
Maybe we will get all those things I dreamed of in December! Or maybe Mother Nature has a nasty surprise in store for us. Like the one we received several years ago on RR Trade Show weekend... 18 inches of snow all at once!
One thing is for sure, if we do not get much more snow and the spring is dry, the summer could be a fire filled season.
So while I, like so many others, have been enjoying the lack of snow and cold temps, the reality of the situation says we need more moisture. I would much rather have snow now than a late wet spring. So I am going to dare to say, "Let it snow, let it snow!"
–Until then,
Ken
