Area has a big heart!

This area truly has a big heart!
On Saturday a group of volunteers spearheaded by Bob Johnston and Marlene McNally successfully hosted another fundraising dinner for the Kenora/Rainy River Alzheimer Society.
McNally and Johnston began working on collecting donations for the event back in November and by the time it rolled around this past weekend the Penny table was more than 60 items deep!
That generousity came from businesses and individuals from right across the west Rainy River District.
The spirit in which so many gave seemed to be contageous this year. There was no problem getting the Chairs for Charity raffle going this year with two repeat artists, Patti Diebel and Vivian Locking donating their time again and a new member of the community Linda Watson donate her time to do a chair this year as well.
The Chairs for Charity raffle was the most successful it has been ever, topping $700 in proceeds this year!
Unsolicited, Diebel even painted and framed a beautiful picture which was raffled off as well.
Then there were all the volunteers that helped sell tickets, take tickets, set up and take down the hall, cooked the food, donated much of the food, served the food, worked the penny tables, etc.
All the generousity added up to nearly $3,000 for the Alzheimer Society.
The area always seems to have a big heart when it comes to causes like this one or ones like the Relay for Life, etc.
It makes me feel happy to live in such a great area.
–Until then,
Ken
