Very thankful for every day with him

Well it was a very stressful time last week.
All week I wondered if I was going to have to put my long time companion, Navy Boy, my dog, to sleep.
As I said last week he had been suffering from seizures of lately. He had another doozy on Wednesday. My heart and mind sunk.
I took him to Bemidji with me to see my fiancee and kids on the weekend. We had scheduled an appointment to see a vet there.
I went knowing that it could be the end for my 14 year old family member.
But Kim, my fiancee, after observing him, felt it might be premature to put him down. She encouraged me to go to the vet with an open mind.
We saw the vet at 4 p.m. Saturday. He was very helpful. Asked questions and assessed Navy.
He said that seizures can be caused by any multitude of things and without expensive tests there was no way to be sure.
I had noticed that since he had been cut off any people food and had his treats cut back that he seemed more spry and had not had a seizure. The vet said it could very well be metabolic and urged us to give him medicine that is basically a choline booster. He said he has had really good results with dogs having fewer and less severe seizures. He said if it doesn't help and the seizures come back or get worse to come back and then we will decide what to do.
So Navy is still with us, and I am thankful for every day I am blessed to have his company. He is not happy about not getting people food anymore but he is alive.
–Until then,
Ken
