Face to face visiting is the best!

In this high tech world no one seems very far away when they are connected via the internet or cell phone.
This is the situation we have been in with my fiancee's mom and step-dad for the past couple of years.
They retired to Belize a few years ago on a modest pension. They had hoped to sell their home in Bemidji and use the money from the sale to supplement their income. But with the economy tanking that did not happen right away and that meant we did not get an annual visit from them.
So we talked on the phone once a week. Or we emailed back and forth. And recently Kim's mom learned to text... so they were in touch every day.
Until they arrived on Friday for their first visit in three years, we did not realize how much it means to be face to face.
We sat on the deck and in the camper and around the table for hours and hours talking and laughing! Tears of joy were shed a few times and I heard everyone say they just did not realize that despite seeing photos of each other and our equally busy lives, how much it means to see each other.
Now that they are home to conclude the sale of their home, we hope that annual visits will become the norm.
–Until then,
Ken
