You are here

Here a woodtick, there a woodtick...

Here a woodchuck, there a woodchuck, everywhere a woodchuck.....
Ooops! I meant Here a woodtick, there a woodtick, everywhere a woodtick!
If you went out in the woods for anything over the weekend you must have heard that tune hummed many a times!
With such a dry and warm winter the crawly critters fared well in the off season and seemed to have exploded in numbers this year.
With 80 degree weather in March we saw ticks on the dogs for the first time before the official start of spring.
Now that the snow and freezing temperatures are pretty much a memory, they seem to be everywhere.
We were camping over the weekend and I found them crawling on just about any surface they could, hoping a warm blooded creature like us or the dogs would brush it and they could hitch a ride.
In the middle of the night Friday I found one on my belly already burrowing in. For a moment I thought what a good way to lose some weight... it could suck it out of me... just kidding!
Actually I pulled it out... but was on the outside of the bunk in the camper... I did not want to wake Kim up so I put it out the window.
Of course I then got the heebie-jeebies and began scratching all over like a mad man looking for more... I'm sure she didn't sleep through that!
–Until then,
Ken
