The age of the “Three whys?
Ever wonder why the sky is blue? Or why the birds sing? Or why velcro sticks together?
Recently I had the pleasure of hangin out with a little fella who is almost three.
He is growing like a weed and so is his intellect. Well at least I thought it was at the time.
The first time he said something with the word “Why?” in it I answered him with an explanation.
It was not long later and there was another “Why?”
Again I replied with an explanation as to “why” he had to wear his seat belt and sit in a child car seat.
A little while later he asked if he could have an ice cream. When the answer was “No” he asked
“Why?”
Suddenly a light went on... “terrible twos” are almost over and now the age of the “three whys?” are upon him.... after all it took me three “whys?” to catch on that he was asking the question to just about every answer.
While I am sure it is his natural curiosity that is at the bottom of the constant “Whys?” and that he is retaining some of the explanations, it is likely more of a phase... at least for now.
It won’t be long and his parents will be hearing the famous, “How much farther? or “I have to go pee!” every few miles in the car.
–Until then,
