Hurricanes versus winter
I wonder if property values in Florida will start to take a swing downward as yet another hurricane (Frances) pulverized the state over the weekend. This only days after Charlie caused widespread damage and now as Ivan threatens to hit the citrus state again later this week.
Snow birds spend their retirement savings to go and stay in Florida, and other southern states each winter. Escaping our -40 temperatures and the white stuff that blankets the ground.
There are those who say they would love to live down south year round and avoid winter all together. However, after seeing what a particularly virulent
hurricane season has done to Florida this year, I am thinking that I can endure the cold winter months if it means Mother Nature will not huff and puff and threaten my home every year at this time with these vicious storms.
I feel really bad for those people who have lost so much in the past few weeks and the weeks to come as the storm season reaches paramount. But it does make me feel somewhat thankful for the relatively safe place we live in. A place where the only danger is a bit of cabin fever in January.
–Until then,
