We need to be better prepared
Ken
It seemed like no one was prepared or knew what to do Monday when a gas line was sheared off the Rainy River Clinic by a motorist.
We all like to think that nothing bad will ever happen, but Monday a bomb was waiting to explode in the center of town.
Only one fireman from our department answered the initial page to the problem. Why is that?
The police were no where to be found, too bad it was not a Friday night, then they would have been parked right at the top of Main St.
Many communities have emergency plans and Rainy River is no different. And many communities
have emergency drills, simulating possible disasters, so that they are ready when it happens for real. That is where Rainy River is different.
We all enjoy living in our quiet little town and love going about our business as though something bad will never happen. Well Monday it nearly did and we were not ready.
The town has flooded more than once in the past several years. We talked about building better permanent dikes. That did not happen.
Now we nearly had a major explosion in town. We should not be complacent and should begin regular drills so we are prepared.
–Until then, Ken
