One last hangover at the RR Hotel

Last week the townsfolk of Rainy River gathered for a funeral of sorts. The former Rainy River Hotel was demolished on Main St. and many people attended its last day on this Earth.
While it sat vacant and unusable for quite some time, it was amazing to hear people reminisce about it's history.
Len Ricci, former Record publisher and lifelong resident, told me that the original RR Hotel was long and skinny.... the north side of the building knocked down last week.
He thought the south side was added on some time after World War II.
Then I spoke to Mike Meunier who said he as a 15 year old helped build the south side addition before the war.
So the north side was likely nearly a century old and the rest about 70 years.
I heard many stories of people who snuck in to the hotel and drank underage back in the day.
I even have my own story of doing that. I was four different people in a month before I turned 19 and got served. Then on my 19th birthday teacher and friend Rene Hogue took me there for my "first" beer. The owner carded me but did not believe I was Ken Johnston. He thought he was finally wising up to my sneaky tactics... of course this was before photo I.D.
Ah memories....
Well watching the demolition I ended up getting sun burnt and had a bit of sun stroke... so I guess the RR Hotel left me with one last hangover!
–Until then,
Ken
