Sadly, camping season is over

As I write this I know that for school kids here in Rainy River it is the last day of summer vacation (Monday), and next week my step-kids will make their trek back to school for yet another year.
Sadly I know this marks the end of summer and the camping season I love so dearly.
While I was supposed to be on holidays this week and camping again, we decided we could not afford to go this week.
A few weeks ago I lobbied for another trip in September and for a time it looked as though it might happen.
But then we counted our pennies and free weekends and realized it was not to be.
I can not complain though. It has been a stellar camping summer for us. A trip with my folks in May and one in July.
Two weeks in the Black Hills and Denver and eastern South Dakota. It will probably be a summer we will never be able to rival. So while I am sad it is over, I revel in the memories we created this summer and will soon have the camping gear packed away, the camper winterized and the snow will fly. As fast as summer flew by I am sure the new year will arrive and I will begin to dream of camping trips again next summer.
I usually try to force myself not to think about camping until after Christmas... but if we get another mild winter like last year, that might be hard to do!
