Together we can get through it

At such a terrible time of loss, it is amazing how tightly small towns are bound together.
As the nearly 109 year old C.N. Hotel burned to the ground on Monday volunteer firefighters from Rainy River, Dawson and from even across the border, answered the call to try and save Rainy River's oldest business.
As they fought in vain, they never gave up and as the hours passed people that were gathered to watch the historic building disappear began to realize the firefighters needed back-up.
I saw Elissa and Jon from J & E Unique Variety go back and forth to their store for beverages and then later with homemade sandwiches for the fire depts.
I also saw goodies from Woods Quality Bakery on the scene and I am sure that there others that I just didn't see.
People also at a drop of hat helped save belongings from the two tenants apartments in the hotel. Firefighters carried the stuff out and the public helped move them to safety.
As I took pictures I was sad to see yet another of Rainy's businesses destroyed by fire, but the kindness and generosity of others helped pick me up. Together we have lost, but together we can get through it.
