Sometimes doing good can be bad
Ken Johnston
Trying to do good, can sometimes end you up being wrong.
I was reading a news story in the High Prairie South Peace News the other day about a man who tried to stop some youths from abusing a dog.
He awoke to the sounds of four youths kicking a defenseless dog. He even saw one of them pick the dog up by the tail and kick it between the legs.
He shouted at them and they did not stop. Feeling like he had to do something he used his paint ball gun to try and warn them off. Unfortunately he hit one of the abusers. That stopped the abuse of the poor dog, but he himself was eventually convicted of assault, even though the paint ball gun was ruled not to be a firearm.
The man ended up having to write a letter of
apology to the youth he hit, take anger management courses and was given a five year firearm prohibition.
Even the judge said it was ironic how the “knight in shining armor” sometimes ends up on the wrong side of the law.
It is sad that in trying to do a good thing he ended up getting punished.
While the article did not say what the kids’ punishments were, I hope that they too were given anger management courses.
Incidents like this are what create problem dogs that are aggressive or unable to be around children.
