Rediscovering brotherly love

Ken Johnston

Growing up with your brothers and sisters you go through all kinds of things together. You often play games together and sometimes fight over things, that as adults, seem pretty silly.
Soon enough high school graduation comes and we take off for the adult world. Eventually, we all leave the nest. Living in rural Ontario, chances are we all go our separate ways. Such has been the case in my life with my sister going to Ottawa, another to Thunder Bay and another in Winnipeg.
We tend to only get together here and there and are rarely all together at any one time. Funny how you spend so much time with family and then rarely see each other.
Over the weekend my brother Pete came down to visit with me. His wife was away on business so

it was just us lads out on the town.
Friday evening we went to the Santa Claus parade together, something I don’t think we have ever done together. Then Saturday we got in the car and went on a road trip. It was really fun to hang out with this guy whom I often fought with over silly things when we were kids.
We did not fight but in fact laughed at some of the great times we had in our youth. We had hoped our dad would come with us, but he was busy that day.
Now Pete has gone back to his world in Winnipeg with more memories of things we have done together and I have stayed here.
There isn’t anything like brotherly love.
–Until then, Ken
