What an incredible weekend!

What an incredible weekend!
The weather was absolutely perfect! Hot in the day time and cool at night. Great for outdoor activities like the RRWT and yard work. And great for sleeping with the window open.
I have covered the RRWT since it began 14 years ago and have seen many different weather scenarios. Some years there has been a nice day and a yucky day. But rarely is there ever two nice days like the ones we had Friday and Saturday. Thermometers were topping the 80 degree mark and just about everyone was wearing shorts!
Both sides of the big tent were opened to allow the weather inside during the day!
When this tournament was conceived it was thought that a Fall tourney would yield big fish as the water would be colder. Big fish from the lake tend to move into the river in the fall when water temps drop.
So when I heard it was going to be a hot weekend I was fearing there would be more skunks in the event than there are living in our culverts around town.
But it was like a perfect storm... hot days are shorter now, cool and even cold nights have been the norm for a month. Water temps were reportedly down enough to get the walleye moving and the proof was in the pudding.
Both days set a record for the number of fish caught at this tourney. 687 fish were weighed in! And those were just the ones weighed. Many anglers reported catching 75-100+ each day!
It was the longest weigh-ins I have ever seen! Just over 2 hours the first day! Last year we had a day where 1/3 of the boats were skunked on a day and they were over in 45 mins.
What an incredible weekend we had and what a great fishery we have!

–Until then,
Ken
