The pot calling the kettle black
How ironic is it that the provincial government mandated that municipalities could not carry a deficit for more than two years back in the 1930s, but yet the province itself has spent us into the hole nearly $15 billion.
Its like the pot calling the kettle black.
So here we sit with municipalities forced to be responsible governments, but the people enforcing that rule spending out of control.
As they spin out of control, further and further into deficit, they have now decided that they need to do something about it. So what is their answer? It is to cut and gut services across the province. And these moves have come without any consultation of the communities they affect. Instead they blind-side them.
First thing to go was our tourist info centre. Next is provincial parks, including our closest one, Caliper Lake.
Now they are cutting the hours to our only government service office for 60 miles! Is this the beginning of eliminating all government presence here at all?
One would think that if the province can tell municipalities to balance their books annually, it could too and still maintain essential services like towns do.
–Until then,
