Looking back at 24 years on the job
As I sit and write this I am thinking about how many years I have been doing this job.
I started at the Record at Christmas 1988, making this upcoming year my 25th as editor. Wow! Where does time go?
My very first story came on New Year's Eve 1988, at 10 p.m. I remember it plain as day... or should I say night! My dad and I walked over the international car bridge to capture the last paying toll customer and the first one to cross the bridge toll free!
Since that time I have had many great experiences. I was privileged enough to meet the Prime Minister of Canada, Jean Chretien.
I really enjoyed going up with the Canadian National Parachute team during the town's 90th birthday celebrations.
I witnessed the 4008 move from the west end of town to its current location.
I saw the town's dream of a new hospital realized.
I have enjoyed school concerts, graduations, prom, etc.
I have also had to witness and report on tragic incidents such as floods, fires and even murders.
So as I reflect, I also look ahead. What will the Record's pages bring you in the next 24 years?
–Until then, Ken
