Heartbreaking but triumphant!
Die hard Minnesota Vikings fans were glued to their seats Sunday as the team faced the number one team in their division and arch rivals the Green Bay Packers.
While a playoff spot was on the line another very historic item was on the agenda.
Running back Adrian Peterson, who one year to the day had major reconstructive surgery on his knee, was 208 yards away from breaking the all time record for rushing yards in a regular season.
It looked like the Vikes and Peterson were on track to both win the game and break the record at half-time.
For me I was super excited.... was I about to witness history and see my team make the playoffs for the first time in a few years?
Then in the third quarter the Vikes seemed to have their wheels falling off when they incurred several bad penalties and the Packers mounted a comeback and kept the game tied right up to the end.
But in the fourth the Vikes tightened their lug nuts and fought all the way to the end... and it was right at the end where it became clear that Peterson was so close but yet so far away... the team had 3 seconds on the clock and had to choose to either kick a field goal for the win or to let Peterson try and carry it in to break the record and face overtime if he did not make it.
The choice was to secure the win and a playoff berth. It was heartbreaking and triumphant all at once. Now we face the Packers again in the first round of the playoffs this Sat. Should be good!
