Trying to solve the peanut mystery!
I returned home from Bemidji a couple of days early to avoid the storm that was coming on Sunday.
When I exited my garage I saw something that I have seen several times this winter in much the same place. There were empty peanut shells behind my garage and down the sidewalk along its south side.
The first time I never gave it much thought. But after the scene repeating itself several times now, I am beginning to wonder where they are coming from.
I am assuming they are there as a result of a squirrel waking up to have a mid-winter snack.
There is no cohesive trail to follow nor any tracks. I asked my neighbour to the north if he was feeding the birds peanuts and he said "No."
Either the peanuts are stashed somewhere nearby and the south side of my garage is a nice place to eat them or someone is feeding them to the birds and in this case a squirrel.
I will keep my eyes peeled and maybe I will see the critter in action!
. . .
Kudos are due to the Town Crew who did a phenomenal job on Monday getting the streets plowed and sidewalks on the main routes open after the dump of snow we had.
Also a pat on the back to Joan Aikenhead who was shovelling her own walk when I went for lunch Monday and then when I returned to work was helping her neighbour, Alvin Hagarty do his!
