Two of my favourite guys are on the mend

Ken Johnston

It has been a very tough week.
It all started late last Sunday night when one of my dogs started vomiting and did not stop all night long.
Tuesday I took him to the vet and $200 later I took a very sick dog home on antibiotics. The Dr. figured he either had pancreatitis or a severe infection.
Pancreatitis, to the best of my understanding, is when the pancreas over produces enzymes to the point where it can actually destroy itself... a very serious condition. I asked what could cause it and the vet asked if Odie got into anything he would not normally eat.
He did get into some cat food while I was out of town the Saturday before... but he has had cat food before.
However, the fact that he is about 12-14 years old and the cat food being strange to his system,

that could very well have caused it.
However, the blood test results on Wednesday did not yield any concrete proof that he had pancreatitis... “but it can mimic a sever infection,” said the vet.
So I continued with the medicine and by Thurs. was getting worried as he had not eaten anything since Sunday. I bought some special food and nutritional supplement from the vet on Thurs. and began syringing food down his throat. By Sunday he was starting to eat on his own again and was a little more steady on his feet.
Meanwhile, on Sat. my favourite Uncle, Bob, ended up in the hospital after having a fall. He has been doctoring for a heart problem and now it seems they will be moving his valve surgery up. He had us all worried but he is home now and will soon have the heart problem fixed. I am glad they are both on the mend. –Until then, Ken
