Pray for a mild winter

Ken Johnston

Think gasoline prices are bad? Well the way things are looking the heating costs for just about all sources of heat will be high this winter.
The gas companies are applying for rate hikes that will result in even higher bills than last year.
Electricity rates continue to be high, especially if you use a lot of it.
If you are like me, I just cringe when I see a light left on in a room that has no one in it or hearing the furnace kick in.
So what is a person to do?
Over the weekend I spent some time splitting wood for my alternative heat source. It was ironic that it was very hot out and I was preparing fuel to

create heat.
In the next few weeks I will check the weather stripping around windows and doors and get them ready for the winter.
Some people use programmable thermostats for their furnace. And like some did in the summer, (when they adjusted their air conditioning to a higher temp.) they can adjust the temperature to a lower one and wear more layers of warm clothes.
The only other option is to pray for a mild and short winter.
–Until then,
Ken
