Was Halloween cheaper in the 70s?

In a study release last week 81% of Canadians will be spending $1.1 billion on Halloween this year.
WOW!
That is a lot of moola!
Quebecers will on average spend $63.43 while Manitobans only $46.04. Ontarions will spend about $57.34.
Spending will include decorations, pumpkins, costumes and of course treats.
Reading that report I wondered how much Halloween cost when I was a kid (way back in the 70s).
In those days all of our costumes were either thrown together with this and that or hand made by our mom.
Treats were giant sized compared to today... we actually received regular sized candy bars that were larger than the ones you buy for a buck a piece now.
Many people gave out apples and Clara Marr even gave out carmel apples (yum... still remember those!).
Many others gave out homemade cookies individually wrapped in saran wrap and others still had rolls of nickels and dimes which they gave one to each trick or treater. Decorations were also homemade or a carved pumpkin.
I am sure things were cheaper then.
