Lost half the girth in two hours!

Two dogs in one.
That is what many people have said about my Shih Tzu named Navy... especially after they saw the “little” guy late Sunday afternoon.
Navy went on a two hour diet that saw him lose at least half his girth. It was a painstaking process. He not only had to give up his treats but also his food and water for two hours.
Then to top things off the usually hyper “big” guy had to sit very still while I put him through the wringer (almost literally).
Last spring I had a terrible experience with a groomer and decided enough was enough. I went out and bought a set of clippers. Twice I attempted grooming and by the second time was doing pretty good.
However, by this past Sunday’s grooming I had forgotten what I had learned.
It took quite a bit of work to cut the matts out of his coat. Once I thought I had that under control I fired up the clippers with a No. 1 guard on them.
It was not long that I discovered his undercoat was equally matted. Out came the scissors again and eventually off came the guard. I had never clipped him without the guard so he looked a bit ragged by the time I was done.
After 1.5 hours of intense “dieting” he was about half the size. Then came the final treatment... bath time!!!
Needless to say it too a few extra treats to earn my forgiveness and for him to feel like a million bucks again!
He definitely looks like a different dog hence my two in one scenario. Kind of like a summer and winter dog.
