Not much I can tell you at this time
The past few weeks have certainly been interesting ones on this page.
It was all prompted by a letter from former Mayor Glen Armstrong questioning the decision of the current Mayor Debbie Ewald to vacation with an unnamed party who is apparently engaged in a lawsuit with the Town of Rainy River.
That prompted a barrage of letters defending Ms. Ewald’s decision to spend her personal time with this unnamed person.
I have been accused of ignoring this law suit.
In fact I have not been privy to any information on it or else you would have read it in the Record.
It has not come up in open council meetings and when asking about it, I have been told the matter is before the courts.
Members of council from both Mr. Armstrong’s and Ms. Ewald’s terms have not named the person suing the town.
I have heard a name on the street but that is hearsay.
Council has conducted several in camera meetings (closed to both the media and the public) to deal with legal matters concerning their firing of former Municipal Administrator Deb Bowman, but never once said she was suing them if in fact she is the person suing them.
When asked if council had reached a financial settlement with Bowman last January, Councillor Ed Tymkin said council could not speak on that issue. “We can not talk about it.”
Once the matter has been resolved by the courts the Record hopes that all parties involved will be willing to shed some light on why the Municipal Administrator was fired, what settlement the parties reached and if it cost the taxpayers any money.
As long as councils of the past and present have instructions not to talk about it publically there is very little I can do to shed any more light on it than that.
Incidentally there is another In camera meeting tonight at the town hall. According to the agenda it is to discuss “Legal matters.” No more specifics than that have been given.
–Until then,
