You are here
The best of both seasons!
As I sit here and find my body clock adjusting to the earlier switch to Daylight Saving Time Monday morning, I find myself saying, “The jet lag is worth it.”
I am ready for spring and summer and Saturday afternoon affirmed that for me.
Around 3:30 p.m. I took the dogs for a walk through the wet and muddy walkways. When I returned home I was amazed how mild it was outside and that my deck had dried off enough at the back to tempt me to sit out in the sun for a while.
I dug a collapsible deck chair out of winter storage and set it up on the west side deck. It was kind of like sitting on the edge of a time zone or the international date line. On one side of the deck (west) it was dry and springlike (temps around 55 degrees F) and the other (East) it was still winter.
You see I had banked the back of the house after that big dump of snow a few weeks ago and even though it was melting rapidly in the mild temperatures it was still quite deep.
So I sat in my chair on the spring side of the deck able to reach across that boundary to winter.
Then I had a brainwave... I went inside and grabbed a couple of bottles of beer and came out.
I reached over to winter and stuck them in the snowbank and then leaned back over to spring. In about 15 minutes the beer was nice and cold so I brought one over to spring and sat on my deck enjoying the warmth of the sun at the earliest date I can remember since living in the house (1995).
It was the best of both seasons! I was hoping for a repeat Sunday but the clouds came in and the sun was unable to heat things up as nicely... but I am sure that winter will fade away now and spring will become the norm very quickly.
–Until then,
Ken
