New found yard

What a difference a few trees being cut down makes!
For the past few years my buddy and I have been talking about getting rid of three trees in my back yard.
At first we joked about them making good firewood.
Then we looked at how scruffy looking they were getting and most recently we were concerned with the downdraft problems I was having when we moved my wood stove chimney.
Well on Friday afternoon he decided it was time to take them down.
Being overshadowed by the neighbour’s magnificent Silver Maple tree, the two spruce and one balsam tree have had a tough time growing much over the past several years.
They were stunted on the top and the bottoms of them were dying off.
However, they were not ready to fall without a fight... well actually it was the neighbour’s tree that came to their defense.
It had stretched its branches into my yard and was holding two of the trees from falling.
But a ladder and a zip of the chain saw and the first two came down no problem.
Jim decided to fell the third three between my house and old fence. It fell just about perfect except it hit the old fence and broke a board on it. The irony of the break was that it broke one of the new boards I replaced on the fence last year.
Well a day of cleaning up branches and raking up the yard and I have discovered a whole bunch more yard to utilize. Plus I can now see the river from my deck.
It really has made a huge difference back there and is allowing more sun light into the yard as well.
We also made about four days of firewood in the process.
–Until then,
