Tried to quit even though I never started
Have you ever tried to quit smoking even though you don’t smoke?
Well over the long weekend I had such an experience.
It did not occur until the second full day of our camping trip to Itasca State Park in Minnesota. That was the day after it was 85 degrees fahrenheit. In the morning it seemed as though Mother Nature was unsure what weather front would prevail. The colder one from the north or the warmer one just to our south.
The wind directions swirled around the old growth pines of Itasca as the direction shifted many times over and over much of the day.
The cold front eventually gripped hold and sitting around the fire was mandatory if one did not want to freeze.
Well it seemed I had the uncanny ability to unknowingly predict which direction the wind would blow the smoke from the fire next. Smoke in my eyes, nose and my clothing had me move to opposite sides of the fire more than once. Sitting down for a few minutes thinking I was out of the path of the smoke, only to have the wind shift back the other way.
Trying to outsmart Mother Nature I would move to the right or left instead of directly opposite, only to have the wind and smoke find me again.
Needless to say I was glad to go to bed that day where there was no smoking allowed.
