You are here
Show your Canadian pride this week!
Are you proud to be a Canadian?
This week you have an opportunity to both reflect on what being a citizen of this fine country means and to display your patriotism in many ways.
Many communities across the district are holding events on Canada Day. Some are simple like community picnics and others are more complicated with events going from sun up to sun down, followed by spectacular fireworks.
But while we are celebrating our freedom and excellent quality of life here in Canada, many thousands of our brash young troops are deployed around the world on peace keeping missions and in war zones in places like Afghanistan. They are fighting for freedoms that we take for granted. They are helping other peoples that were oppressed by dictators or worse to discover that life should be free.
Canada is a great country. Often we take the life we enjoy for granted. Our minds are far away from the reality of the struggles both our troops and the people they are trying to help.
This Sunday, Canada Day, take some time to think about and appreciate Canada. Take time to think about our troops.
Take time to show your pride in them and how great this nation is by clipping out the flag on page fifteen of this paper and flying it in your window from now until after Canada Day.
And if you know someone who has a relative fighting for freedom say thank you to them and tell them to pass on how proud we all are for what they are doing.
–Until then,
Ken
