Operating blind!

Have you ever operated blind?
Well that is how we felt last Monday and Tuesday at the Record.
Having just come off having a week off, it was fortunate that I came in the Friday before just to check emails. Because on Monday when our electronic publishing division in Fort Frances made some big changes to how our email and website functions, we had a meltdown.
After about 9 a.m. last Monday we could not receive emails at all. It was like being blind to the outside world.
We constantly check our email and on days like production day a crucial change to a news story or an advertisement can often arrive in the nick of time.
But we were unable to do any checking and if I had not come in on the previous Friday it would have been even worse. I went through over 200 emails that day and gathered and sorted news and ad copy for last week’s paper.
I worried about what we might be missing but was powerless to do anything about it.
It took another day to get my email up and running and the servicing of our weekly web update also took a few days to get back on track (I am not sure if it is 100% as of yet... I will find out when I try the update this week).
So in addition to being out of the loop by being closed for a week, we came back to be without one of our most important tools... email and web udates.
It felt like we were somewhat blind.
Hopefully things will go much better this week.
–Until then,
Ken
