Pulling out our hair and turning gray

Well if you are reading this then we made it!

As this is only page two, that means I still have most of the paper to put together.

A trial run on Friday of two mock up pages indicated that today could be a very slow day.

It is about 2:30 p.m. Monday and I have managed to get the front page done.... that is not bad considering we are using all new computer software to produce your weekly paper!!!!

Computers are great when they do what you want them to do.

For nearly 18 years we used a program called QuarkXpress. It was and still is for the most part one of the premier page design programs on the market.

Well as we all know technology and demands on it change almost as fast as computers are sold. You buy something and they tell you it is obsolete or a new and improved version is coming out that will blow the doors off what you have now.

Well 18 years has been a great run with Quark.

Well this past week we fully implemented our new program.

Well teaching a old dog new tricks is not always easy... so we practised last week and practised for real on Monday... hopefully we got it fairly close to right!

The biggest challenge for me was unlearning the shortcut keys from the old program and learning new ones for the new one or at the very least how to do it the long way!

I think in time we will be back up to speed with where we were before but until then we will pull a bit more hair out and turn a little more gray haired.
