The reason Easter was early

If you thought Easter was extra early this year you were right.
In fact the last time it was this early was 95 years ago in 1913.
It was sort of a blip in the entire Easter equation and will not occur again for 220 years (the year 2228.
The reason for it being so infrequent stems from the historical way of calculating when Easter should be celebrated. The Hebrews used a lunar calendar to identify Passover and since the moon cycles every 29.5 days and our calendar (The Roman Calendar) can have as many as 31 days per month, every so often Easter falls quite early.
According the Hebrew Lunar Calendar Easter should fall on the first full moon after Spring Equinox which was March 20th this year. Just under the wire, we had a full moon on the 21st, hence the early Easter.
Falling on the 23rd this year, it can even fall one day earlier, but that is even more rare than this year's occurrence. The next time it will be on the 22nd is 277 years from now in 2285 and the last time was 1818.
In any event, it was early and that means we do not see another long weekend until Victoria Day on May 19th. But don't worry, next year Easter Sunday will be on April 12th, somewhat normal for Easter.
–Until then,
