Hopefully the last kick

I think that winter storm took not only most of the public off guard on Friday and Saturday but also many members of the animal world.
With more than a foot of snow on the ground by Saturday at noon, the spring we enjoyed the previous Saturday seemed to be over.
But the birds that have returned from their southern migration over the winter were not deterred and did not leave.
Instead they opted to wait the snow out and hid in spruce trees.
Many of them could be seen along roadways hen and pecking like chickens for any little bit of food they could find. I saw a number of robins fighting over old seeds.
Bird feeders were also very well used over the weekend.
I know my Mom's feeders were right full when they left for Winnipeg on Friday and by yesterday they were pretty much empty.
Other animals, including my dog and I am sure many other domestic pets, decided they did not want any part of the snow. They were stuck in doors for the duration.
I think we were all disgusted by the late winter storm, but at least it is over now and hopefully will be the last kick by Old Man Winter for this year.
–Until then,
