Waking by the "coo coo clock!"

I wake by the "coo coo clock!"
For the past 13 springs I have had a back up alarm clock that probably few other people have... a pair of Mourning (or should I say "morning") Doves.
I always look forward to spring time temperatures that allow me to leave my bedroom window open all night. I also enjoy watching the return of many birds to my neighbourhood. In fact I saw Bohemian Waxwings, an Oriole and even a Bald Eagle over the weekend.
While I do enjoy watching the Mourning Doves one thing that has really annoyed me over the years is their persistent cooing in the mornings.
One year they sat right outside my window on the power line to my house and started at sunrise until who knows when going "Coo" "Coo". It drove me nuts in the early years.
Well this Monday I was awakened by them for the first time this year. I am sure they have been out there cooing away for longer but the cooler spring has kept my windows closed.
It does not annoy me as much anymore as I guess I have gotten used to them driving me a little "Cuckoo" each year.
At least I know I will be up on time for work in the spring and summer months, even when the power goes out and my main clock is knocked out.
