New meaning to Father's Day
There are 365 days in the year and I think that every day is special, but on Sunday I felt that Father's Day was even more meaningful than it has ever been for me.
Now don't get me wrong... I love my dad and have always made that day special for him the best I could. But I have never been on the opposite end of that special day... that is until now.
My fiancee has two kids still at home. Riley, 11, and Veronica, 8, also will someday be officially my stepchildren. But after about 18 months of being in their lives they already have made me feel like their step-dad.
So when Father's Day came this year I was all ready with a gift for my dad. But I was not ready for gifts from my new found kids.
They presented me with a t-shirt that says World's Coolest Dad, a new ball cap and three cards. The third card was very special. It was from Riley and hand made.
There were plenty of hugs to go around and we had Father's Day feasts on Saturday in Bemidji and then I came home on Sunday and had another one with my dad.
What a special day... all I can say is that I was teary eyed more than once and very proud to call them my kids.
Thanks you guys.
Love you.
–Until then,
Ken (a.k.a. Step-dad in waiting!)
